Today in English, the class began looking at chapter 2 of The Arrival. We discussed the story so far and the symbolism of the illustrations. Using the people on the ship picture, we created a freeze frame and then each character was ‘woken up’ in the picture to tell us who they were, where they had come from and why they were on the ship. The children pretended to be men and women getting away from war torn countries, people leaving difficult situations to find a better life and others pretended that they were struggling to make any money so they were looking for work somewhere else. We will use these characters in a piece of writing in tomorrow’s lesson.
