I am absolutely loving having Upper School once a week for their German lesson!
Our first two lessons together have flown so quickly! Here are some of the things we have been exploring:
We learnt to sing a special song for someone’s birthday…
‘Zum Geburtstag viel Gluck…
Zum Geburtstag viel Gluck…
Zum Geburtstag lieber Christopher…
Zum Geburtstag viel Gluck!’
(lieber = male / liebe = female)
We have been practising greetings and short conversations involving our name, age and feelings. We are learning to refine our pronunciation of certain sounds as they are different across different languages. We have learnt that words like Wie (how) sounds like ‘vee’ and words like Jahre (years) sounds like ‘yarer’.
We are exploring stereotypes of people in England made by Karla and Kai (our little German visitors helping us to learn the German language). So far, we have uncovered that they think that EVERY DAY we drink cups of tea and eat fish and chips. We decided that there are probably some stereotypes of what people think people in Germany eat and drink every day.
Next time, we will learn to say viele (many) rather than alle (all) to describe what people in Germany and England like zu essen (to eat) and zu trinken (to drink) as this helps to avoid sounding like we are making stereotypes.
Gut Gemacht!
(Well Done!)
