We have been reading the story ‘The Odd Egg’ by Emily Gravett over the past week or so and doing lots of different writing activities linked to the story.
The children wrote letters to Duck the main character a few days ago and put them into our magic portal in the hope that magic would carry them to Duck. It did because they got a reply letter from Duck the day after telling them that he loved their letters and that their advice (on how to handle the other birds being mean to him) had made him feel so happy. He said he’d like to keep their letters for a bit longer to read again but that he would send them back.
Today he did, it a rather special way! Mrs Welsh went out of our back door to find a large present left on the floor outside. It was so exciting and the children had so many great guesses wondering what could be inside. When they opened it they found a basket with another letter from Duck, their letters and Dave. Duck suggested that we might like to keep their letters for basket and make it ‘The Magic Story Basket’. After lots of thinking the children decided that yes we would and now instead of a magic story cupboard we have a magic story basket.
Dave is Duck’s friend who came with the letters to make sure they arrived safely. Dave told us he’d love to stay with us in Lower School because he’d heard what lovely children they all are. Everyone agreed that they’d love Dave to stay with us. He spoke to lots of the children today and they wrote him messages, made him nests and even made him food to eat. Lucky Dave, lucky Lower School!
