At the end of last half term, we finished up our Romans topic with a full Roman day! We were also lucky enough to have year 2 join us.

To begin with, the children had a maths lesson to recognise Roman numerals. The children did very well and noticing the patterns with Roman numerals and could soon apply this learning to completing some activities to solve a puzzle using Roman numerals. This lesson re-capped the place value unit on Roman numerals.

Next, children used charcoal pencils to attempt to accurately draw Roman statues using charcoal. This followed on from art lessons where we explored dark and shadow in drawing.

In the afternoon, the children did DT - they followed careful instructions to design and create their own Roman sandal, led by Mrs Powell. They also learned about some of the Roman fashions that people would wear so they could design their sandals to be as fashionable as possible! Some children were extra innovative and added features like tassels, padded insoles and golden trim to their sandals!
