Today, the Upper School class completed the level 2 cycling proficiency certificate with the teachers from the Bikeability Academy.
They were split into three groups for the day and began by learning how to check over their bikes and use their helmets correctly. Once this was completed, the three groups began cycling tasks on the school playground such as emergency stops, signalling, setting off correctly and manoeuvring around obstacles. All the children did a brilliant job of listening carefully and following instructions. There was also some good hearted competition between the children with some very supportive encouragement given to each other at all times.

In the afternoon session, the three groups were taken out onto the local streets of Inskip to put into practice the skills they had learnt on the playground. They had to demonstrate awareness of traffic by looking around them regularly, moving carefully around parked vehicles and signalling to turn left and right.

The children learnt such a lot in one day and we are very grateful to the teachers from Bikeability for their excellent teaching, patience and support today. See you next week for part 2!
