On Tuesday afternoon, the Small Schools Football Tournament took place at our school with Treales and Weeton Schools attending. Eight children from Y5/6 were chosen to participate in the competition (Nathaniel, Joseph, Maddi, Alex W, William, Tom, Reuben and Ben) and they made us all very proud.
In the first match against Treales, Inskip held them at nil nil by half time with some fantastic saves by Nathaniel and Tom in defence. There were also plenty of chances on goal by Alex W and Ben in the second half but it was not to be and the match ended 2-0. The Inskip team were disheartened but kept their heads up. They gathered themselves, gave each other encouragement and went into the second match against Weeton with a fantastic attitude. There was brilliant team work by all; the ball was in their possession for most of the match! In the end, Nathaniel scored two and Alex W scored one goal meaning they beat Weeton 3-2. Just what they needed…There was now a chance Inskip could win the trophy.

Our team could then only watch from the side lines as Treales took on Weeton. It was a nail-biting final game but Weeton were no match for the strength and determination of Treales and they beat them fair and square. That meant that Treales had won the trophy and Inskip came second but it didn’t matter. Our team were the winners to me! I was so proud of the brilliant way they conducted themselves on and off the pitch. It was a pleasure to watch.

And there’s always next year…
