Year 6 have had a fabulous day in the woods at Humblescough Farm today. Following an all important safety talk, we headed down to the woods, where we based ourselves for the day. We began our activities by fire striking, which for some took a little effort! Building the fire up, took our three teams of three needing to collect quite an amount of dry sticks and a lot of patience, but eventually each group successfully made a good fire. After toasting marshmallows, s’mores were quickly made and devoured!
Our next activity was shelter building and the boys were provided with rope, a tarpaulin and as many logs as they needed. The shelters were tested by having a bucket of water thrown over the shelter whilst they were sat beneath it. Fortunately all the teams managed to stay dry under their shelters!
After lunch it was time to build a bigger fire collectively. Each team made some dough which was stuck on the end of a whittled stick, then baked over the fire to make damper bread, which the boys found surprisingly delicious with jam. Before dismantling the shelters, there was time for some clay modelling, tree climbing and a couple of games of hide and seek.
It has been another action packed day and all the boys have cooperated brilliantly. They worked well in teams and made the most of their day in the woods.
