Today the children completed lots of learning all about how scientists classify (group) animals. We started off by looking at a classification system and then broke this down into classifying vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. The children were challenged to identify what characteristics each of the 5 vertebrate groups has-Mammals, amphibians, fish, birds and reptiles. We then identified some organisms for each of these groups.
After that, we learnt about the 6 invertebrate groups and went to explore our school grounds to find some different invertebrates. We discovered lots of molluscs, crustaceans and annelids today (snails, slugs, wood lice and worms).
