Middle School have well and truly travelled into the past this week!
As part of our ‘Stone Age’ topic, we have explored cave art dated back to the Stone Age. We have learnt about some of the techniques used, thought about the colours they had available and discussed why certain images cropped up again and again - particularly animals.
We talked about what animals would be depicted in today’s art around where we live before exploring how to capture a ‘today animal’ in the style of cave art.
Focusing on the basic shapes, we captured our very own cave art-style drawings with few details and dark outlines.
After exploring the cave art, we moved our learning outside to recreate ‘moving cave art’ in our Dance lesson. We moved around like fire. We moved like we were in a storm. We moved like cattle. We moved like a hunter. We moved like we were being hunted. We moved like we were searching for materials. We moved like we were painting the walls.
We explored various shapes, using the outdoor space before creating small group freeze frames to capture a moment from their ‘moving cave art’ scene. They were absolutely brilliant!
See if you can work out what is happening in the ‘cave art’
