Our art project this half term has been to create some collages of minibeasts. I chose minibeasts for the children to create as they have studied them throughout two of their science topics this year most recently last half term when looking at living things and their habitats. We have been extremely fortunate this year to have two fantastic author/illustrators visit our school who both inspired our children with their drawing and explanation of how they use collage. So we had a look through our copies of Petr Horáček and Lauren Child's picture books and talked about what we saw. Then the children experimented with the collage technique in their sketch books. They first experimented with layering images on top of one another then created an image or scene.

The next activity the children progressed onto was creating a minibeast collage using different pieces of card and paper transferring their learning and skills from their earlier activities. Take a look at these photographs which show a snapshot of their progress …
