This week we have been continuing to learn about habitats. Our Reception children have been developing their understanding of the natural world taking part in the discussions and research with Year 1 and 2 about habitats. The Reception children have also been building on their prior learning of colour mixing paint and used their skills to create colours to paint a mini beast that they drew.
Year 1 and 2 have been deepening their knowledge of habitats after their introduction to the science topic last week https://inskip.lancs.sch.uk/blog/2022-04-24-12-45-00-habitats-and-the-natural-world by looking at microhabitats outside. The children identified six different microhabitats (short grass, long grass and flowers, rotting wood, rocks and stones, etc) and then chose two to explore. They linked their maths and science knowledge together by creating a tally chart to record the amount of each minibeast they could find in the microhabitat they were searching.
In their second lesson the children widened their thinking to consider habitats of animals around the world and began to research them in books.
