This week the children developed their ability to recount events in a story by first acting out a scene from the classic “The Wind In The Willows” by Kenneth Grahame. 

In groups the children took on the roles of Rat, Mole and Badger and retold the part of the story when Mole decides to venture in the Wild Woods alone in search of Badger’s house. 

The children rehearsed the scene before performing it to the rest of the class. After their performances they evaluated each other’s and then went on to improve their own performances taking inspiration from the best parts of their friend’s performances they had just watched. The children were practising the skills of editing and improving their piece through drama before they did it in their writing. 

The next day as they had now made the part of the story a real-life experience for themselves they wrote down a recount of this part of the story focusing on the chronological order of the events and writing in the past tense. Next week they will use their recount and turn it into a letter from Mole to Toad.
