Two weeks ago work began on the field next to our school where a housing development is being built. We have been observing the changes closely and enjoying seeing the different big vehicles coming and going.

After our first visit we had a debate about whether the changes were a good or a bad thing. We had mixed views, the children were mainly concerned about the loss of habitats for animals and the fact that they would miss seeing the cows in the field. The children were also concerned that the peace and quiet we currently enjoy being spoilt as the heavy machinery sent big vibrations through our school buildings and we could feel it through our chairs!

The positive points that arose where that there would be more houses for people to join our lovely village. That might mean we may get more lovely children joining our school in the future just as we have had from the other 'new' houses that have been built.

During our second visit where we went to observe the physical and human features (developing our geography skills) we had a great opportunity for some of our questions and concerns to be answered as Andrew Sharkey the Construction Manager for Concert Living (the company responsible for the build) came over to talk to us. Andrew was brilliant explaining things to the children and answering their concerns. He is coming in to school next week to spend a bit of time in each class talking to the children and answering our questions.

We are really enjoying watching the progress and developing our geography skills. In the classroom I gave the children some resources and tasked them to create a building site themed tuff tray to play with, they have done an amazing job.
