To start this half term, in our English lessons we are exploring how authors can change their writing for a purpose. We explored the purpose of different texts first of all, then moved onto looking at stories more closely. Within stories there are lots of genres which aim to show specific things to the audience. We learned that horror is supposed to scare the audience, mystery is supposed to intrigue them and fantasy is supposed to amaze them. Once we learned some of the conventions of each genre, we organised some of our classroom books by genre.
Children learned that there was more to a book than it's cover!
