Today the children explored the drama convention of Freeze Framing an event from our story, How to Live Forever. They were given a list of scenes from the book to choose from and then worked with a partner to freeze frame the scene like a photo. We had to believe they were the characters by the way they used body language and facial expression. I then got the children to think about what their character thought and felt at that moment. I ‘woke’ their freeze frames up so they could talk in character.
This activity is an excellent way of getting children to focus on comprehension and inference skills which they need to be really hot on in Year Six Comprehension SATs papers.
