The Upper School children finished this half term’s English by organising themselves into groups to create, rehearse and perform their own role plays of significant events from the book Street Child. There were scenes from the workhouse, from the time Jim spent on the coal lighter, a scene showing his time on the streets dancing for money and very importantly, when he escaped from the workhouse. The children worked really well in small groups to show these scenes and become the characters.
Next half term, we will be reading the second novel about the main character’s (Jim) sisters. We will also be using Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf for our next set of English lessons.
