This week we have enjoyed looking closely at all kinds of different maps, paper maps and digital maps. We learnt what a map is and how it works.

Vivian French, the author of many children’s books, very kindly sent us a copy of her book “Maps from Anna to Zane” as a present a little while ago. It’s a story of a little girl receiving an invitation to visit her friend’s house and along with the invitation he sends her a map of the route from her house to his that he has drawn for her.

Anna and Zane’s story inspired the class to want to draw their own maps so I gave them a challenge to create a map for a visitor who didn’t know our school. The visitor would be wanting to use their map to follow a route that would take them from our ‘home time’ gate to the gate along the side of Upper School. The children were eager to take the challenge and so off we all went outside …
