We have begun to look at the Easter story again in our RE lessons, this time focusing on the question: Is Easter a time of sadness or joy?
We questioned what these different emotions were and explored how our positive feelings were more than just 'happy' and our negative feelings were more than just 'sad'. There was a range of emotions between and our wonderful English language had many words to describe these feelings.
Children looked pieces of art depicting the Easter story in various styles and from various periods - they looked and thought about what emotion the artist was trying to show. What emotion are the people in the painting feeling? What emotion did it make us feel when we saw it?
This was a great way to start of the topic and get children thinking about how the Easter story is neither just 'sad' or 'happy', but a range of different emotions for different reasons.
