In History, Upper School have been getting to grips with evidence this week. They have been learning to give reasons for the different versions of the past. To help us understand this a little more, we took part in a whole class puzzle: trying to work out what actually happened last weekend based on the mixture of vague clues.
It was very difficult to work out the accurate details at first as some children were only told minute details, some children saw only acting and others were provided with random pieces of evidence (a drawing, a shopping list, a screenshot of a text message conversation). Eventually, once children had swapped, shared and explored the other pieces of evidence, each piece of the jigsaw seemed to slot together for them…and they solved the mystery!
This lead to a discussion about limited and biased evidence from different perspectives. We talked about how we knew about World War Two and how there are different versions of the War depending on the perspective and the source of evidence.
With open and curious minds (and bundles of respect and sensitivity) Upper School then set off to ‘Miss Langley’s Museum’ to explore…
