As part of our celebrations of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee we have been learning about the Queen and her life, we have looked at some historical artefacts (a souvenir brochure from the Queen’s coronation), images and videos on the internet and photographs of her taken throughout her life.

All our Reception, Year 1 and 2 children then looked closely at a variety of photographs and chose one they would like to copy. The Year 1 and 2 children first drew their portrait in their sketch books looking closely at detail before drawing it again on a larger sheet of cartridge paper to paint with watercolours. 

The children developed their knowledge and skills of observational drawing well as you can see from these fabulous drawings in the photographs below …
