We are making the most of the beautiful spring sunshine this week in our Geography lesson.
The children have really impressed with their mixture of geographical skills and knowledge that was really put to the test!
This week we began to look at climate zones. We did explore these a back in our rainforests topic in September, so we already had a good idea of what we should be looking for. We learned about several different climate zones: polar, temperate, arid, mediterranean, tropical and mountains. We learned that some climate zones were hot whilst others were cold - some had greater temperature ranges between summer and winter, whereas some remained the same. Some zones were drier and others were wetter (we definitely knew which one the UK was!)
The children were each given a climate zones map, an atlas and a grid to sort out a list of different countries. Children had to find the listed country (or region) in their atlas, then they had to match their atlas up to their climate zones map to figure out which zone it was in.
This activity worked really well to develop the children's skills using an atlas and maps, as well as improving upon their existing knowledge of locations around the world.
I was so impressed that children were able to easily locate countries once the continent was pointed out. Children were able to distinguish between the human and physical features on the maps to their advantages.
What excellent work on such a bright and sunny day!
