The children have been great science detectives this week. I brought a bunch of tulips that my own children had given to me on Mother's Day into school for the children to have a close look at. They had a look at a photograph of the tulips when they were fresh and noted the differences in them now they were older and had started to die. 

They used their observation and questioning skills to wonder about all the different parts of the flowers as they pulled them apart and learnt what each part was called. After adding labels to a diagram I had printed out for them they then were challenged to draw picture of a daffodil they had in front of them and label the parts of that based on the things they had just learnt whilst looking at the tulips.

Once the children had finished using the flowers to develop their understanding in science we took them outside and used them to make magic potions, flower soup and stew!
