Good morning, happy Friday!
Today's stars of the blog are a swan family that Leo and his family saw on the canal when they went on their bird spotting hunt the other day. They might even be the same family who my friend saw swimming down the River Wyre. Have you spotted and lovely birds recently? Have a look at the cute ducklings I saw the other day in the photos below!
Here are your activities to choose from today ...

Reading and Responding
Please look at the plans I have sent you on email.
Reception - Please choose an activity from the ones around Handa’s Surpise.
Year 1- Watch part of a film called Something Fishy and then after doing the activities on your plan talk through the story of the film. Can you write a description or the story as if you are the little girl?
Year 2 - Listen to the story of the bird king, your challenge today is to write your own version of The Bird King! Replace the parakeet, toucan, macaw etc. with your choice of birds. Perhaps you could include some birds that you have researched earlier this week!
Here are some other birds I have seen this week, they are ducklings, a special breed of ducks called Call Ducks. Call ducks look very similar to other breeds of ducks only they are smaller with smaller bodies and bills. Call ducks are usually kept as pets and are a bantam breed of duck ...
Ducks
I love receiving the photos of your learning and hearing about the things you have been doing. Emily sent me a recount of her half term holiday which was two pages long and included some great green words (ambitious vocabulary) in it, it will be a good thing to keep to remind you of the things you did during lockdown Emily. Emily also sent me a video of herself stood in her paddling pool telling me the bird riddle she had created rather than sending me a photo of the riddle written down, it was fab! Amber has sent me photos of her writing and she is making so much progress, I love reading her ideas and answers, well done Amber!
I was so impressed to hear of the new skills Leo has learnt whilst making these fantastic Top Trump bird cards. First of all he picked 10 birds and decided on 3 facts that he was going to find out about each one. He then made a template together with his Mum on PowerPoint and he printed 10 cards off. He then googled each bird and found an image of each. His Mum showed him how to copy this into PowerPoint and he used his ruler to measure the size of the box on the template. He made sure all the images were the right size and then printed them off, cut them out and stuck them on. He then asked “Alexa” all of the facts and wrote them on to the cards. He found one of his football card boxes and decorated it. His cards fit into it perfectly. And after all that, he decided that he didn’t need his Power Ranger top trumps anymore, so he wrapped them up and gave them to Ben his little brother! Wow, what a great learner and kind boy you are Leo, I hope you are really proud of your cards and enjoy playing lots of games with them!

Don’t forget to choose your own topic learning again today, what new things have you enjoyed learning bout this week? Leo and his family had an excellent idea of creating a time capsule, a box containing things that Leo has written and drawn this week relating to his life and things that are happening in the world right now. When their time capsule is finished they are going to bury the box and leave it for someone to find, dig up and open in the future. What a great idea to create a memories and real life records of history.
Have a lovely weekend, I will talk to you again on Monday!

Hello Lower School, Happy Fun-day Friday!
Another busy week of learning and play. Keep emailing in pictures, messages and videos. It's great to hear what you have all been up to.
Mrs. Kemp - I love ducklings. We've had lots of them at my house over the years and I think they are such funny characters. I always love watching them take their first bath - sheer joy!
Emily - A recount is a fabulous idea. You have inspired me to write letters to my baby nephews so that when they are old enough, they can read all about what lockdown was like in 2020. I bet you have mastered which way the letters b and d go by now :-)
Amber - You clever writing girl, I bet you remember a finger space after each word. I always sing the BBC Super Movers song in my head 'word, space, word, space, dancing around all over the place!'
Leo - Wowzers! I am blown away by your Top Trump cards. You're going to have so much fun playing with those. What amazing maths to get the measurements so perfect. You have a super star teaching Mummy.
Talking of parents, a big THANK YOU to everyone who's working hard to enjoy Lower School learning at home.
My Dad and I have been enjoying watching the birds on our feeders and in the nest boxes we have around the garden. As you all know, my dad LOVES wildlife so he's been enjoying home schooling me! You're never too grown up to learn. We watch Springwatch together on the TV and last night, we even set up our own moth trap with a bright bulb in the garden. He wants to show me what an Elephant Hawk-moth looks like close up. I wonder if we will catch one to see, and then release back into the wild?
I'll keep you posted after the weekend.
Enjoy being outdoors and spending lots of lovely time with your families :-) x
