It is lovely to be back after the Christmas holidays hearing all the children's news and seeing their smiling faces. We have had a busy first week of learning and fun with our topic of Growth and Green Fingers in Year 1 and Year 2 and our topic of Traditional Tales in EYFS. We have been reading different classic stories and traditional tales and also a twisted tale called 'Jim and the Beanstalk' by Raymond Briggs.

At the start of the week the children and teachers had heard some more strange noises, rumblings, coming from the top of our beanstalk and we were getting quite suspicious. So, the children decided to write letters to whoever may be at the top asking questions and we left them in a basket at the bottom of the beanstalk.

On Wednesday morning we arrived to a HUGE surprise, giant footprints on the carpet, furniture knocked over in our classroom and a letter - the giant had come down the beanstalk and been in our classroom during the night!

The giant’s first visit.

The children were so surprised and excited. We learnt from his letter that his name is Arthur and is the son of the giants Otto and Olga who used to live at the top of our beanstalk! They wrote back to him and left the letters for him in the basket again.

On Friday morning we arrived to another surprise, a delicious surprise! Arthur left the children another letter and two enormous cookies he had baked for them to eat. The children are going to be working on how to teach Arthur to eat more healthily over the next few weeks as he has asked for their help.

Arthur leaves giant cookies.
