Our topic this first half term is called Penguins, Possums and Pigs. Over the past few weeks the children have been learning about penguins. They have learnt about their habitat, where they can be found in the world, as well as how they survive and grow.

We have been lucky enough to receive videos, and photos of some penguins via email from my friend Rachel who is living and working in the Falkland Islands at the moment. Rachel has told us about the different penguins she has found on the island and we have sent her some questions in a return email. We are also hoping to connect with a primary school in Mount Pleasant and talk to the children.

As part of their learning the Year 2 children have compiled all their research into a non-fiction report about a specific breed of penguin they chose to find out about whilst they Year 1 children wrote captions to accompany their paintings of penguins stating facts they had learnt. You can see their reports, captions and art work displayed in the corridors outside our classroom.

Take a look at the penguins in these photographs she has sent us ... can you identify the different breeds?
