Today the children Upper School continued their learning about the Banana Trade having read Juliana’s Bananas. They were introduced to the idea of fair trade and spent time thinking about how much money members of the supply chain should be paid for their part in the trade of bananas. We had a very interesting and intelligent discussion about this with the class giving their own well thought through opinion.
Each group was given the chance to decide how much money each individual should be entitled to for their part in the process. Maddie’s group were almost spot on when they decided that even though they thought it wasn’t fair, the banana workers probably earned the least and the supermarkets the most…

Tomorrow, each group of children will take the roles of the supply chain and argue their case for how much they think they should be paid linking this with the Fairtrade organisation that they are learning about.
