Today the children in Upper School investigated the melting point of different types to chocolate to see which would be best at not melting too quickly at a very hot and sweaty birthday party!
They planned and prepared their tests with dark, milk and white chocolate pieces. Each piece went into a foil tray and was melted in hot water. The groups timed the chocolate to see how long it took to melt completely. We had lots of discussion about how to make sure this stayed a fair test with children stating that there needed to be the same amount of chocolate, the same temperature of water for all three pieces and the timers being used accurately.
The predictions made about which they thought would be slowest at melting were varied but a lot of children thought the white chocolate would be because of the milk content in it.
As it turned out, most of the children were correct with the dark chocolate melting the fastest and the white being the slowest. We concluded that white chocolate would be best for a hot and sweaty birthday party!
