Today in our Science lesson, the children explored what colour light is. At the start of the session, they all stood in a place in the classroom and pointed at the colour they thought light was. Most children thought it was white or had no colour and was transparent.
Next we had a recap about how light refracts through transparent materials such as glass and we used a triangular prism and a torch beam to see the light split into a spectrum of colours.
The class watched short videos of this phenomenon and tried it out themselves in a darkened room. They enjoyed experimenting with different shaped prisms to see what happened.

After this, we all made a colour wheel to test what happens when you spin it really fast. The children noticed straight away that the colours of the rainbow became white again! The photo above shows Freya spinning her colour wheel…can you see any colours?
