Middle School were treated to a fabulous Stone Age day this week! They learnt so much and it really helped to develop their historical detective skills.
We started the day getting to grips with chronology by exploring how INCREDIBLY LONG the Palaeolithic time lasted in comparison to 5000 years of history since the Stone Age ended.
We then explored the time line further by acting out the entire timeline of history from the Stone Age to the present day!
We were then asked a very important question: were people in The Stone Age clever? The initial response was pretty mixed but following a day of DISCOVERY just like the Stone Age people, we were all convinced that they must have been extremely clever and resourceful!
Entrusted with various special artefacts, we needed to use our observant eyes and open minds to consider the uses of the different items.
We explored different food items and took part in a quiz involving us having to look carefully, discuss and diplomatically agree on a suggestion. They did very well!
Next we discussed musical instruments of the Stone Age time and listened to a piece of music which has been created using what historians and scientists have learnt about the Stone Age. Artefacts were shared out and we were given the opportunity to do some observational drawings accompanied by the Stone Age music.
Finally, we explored different replicas of animal skins and furs and needed to decide on which would have been used for clothing back then. After initially all deciding on the wild cat stripes and spots, we learnt that those would have been used in hotter countries where those animals roamed.
It was a wonderful day of team work, detective skills and discovery…
Thank you to ‘Delve into History’ for the experience!!
