As we have been learning about Ancient Greece in our history topic, we have been investigating what life was like in different city states.
In this lesson, we compared Athens and Sparta.
Children split into four groups, each affiliated with either Athens or Sparta. They researched reasons that their city was superior to live in and reasons that their opponent was inferior. After this, groups came together and held a debate - like the democratic meetings in ancient Greece.
Once each side had debated for their reasons for being the best, the children voted in the same way that ancient people voted. They were each given a token and had to place it in the jar that corresponded with their view.
In the end, the Athenians won the debate!
