In our first lesson of gymnastics, the children firstly worked in pairs to create a matched and a mirrored balance using examples on pictures around the hall. They learnt to hold still their balances for at least 3 seconds and to use a stretched, taut body. A lot of the next part of the lesson was about communication as they then went onto teaching another pair their balances and put together a sequence of balances with ways of travelling between each one. This was harder than it sounds and needed lots of rehearsal to get the sequence flowing and gymnastic looking. Next week, we will work on stillness before trying to transfer the balances onto large apparatus.
