Today, the class looked carefully at the oil painting, Gassed by John Singer Sargent. We discussed what was going on, the story behind the picture and the feelings of the soldiers. The children spent time reproducing the painting in pencil in their sketch pads, looking carefully at the shapes and shading. They then wanted to try reproducing the picture in small groups with the children spontaneously using their jumpers as bandages and rulers as sticks. The results were pretty dramatic! See the gallery for their tableaus.
