Upper School are learning about materials and their properties in our science lessons and today they planned and carried out an investigation to find out which container would be the best for keeping some porridge hot. Tyreece came up with an enquiry question and then we thought about what we would measure and observe to answer his question. The children made sure that everything we did was fair such as the same amount of hot porridge (water), taking measurements of the temperature at the same time at regular intervals. The children recorded the results in a table and observed what each material (tin, plastic, cardboard) was like at doing the job of staying hot. Their conclusions were that tin was the best at insulating the heat of the water but that the card would also be useful for putting around the tin to stop anyone burning their hands whilst holding it since the tin container conducted so much heat.
