Upper School have been exploring the question: how does media influence people?
We have focused on advertisement and how different strategies are used to persuade people to buy products. We discussed the use of catchy names, powerful descriptions, graphics, bold claims, celebrity endorsements, colours, offers…
We talked about particular products which are endorsed by Influencers and extremely popular with younger people. We agreed that like most products, we have to be mindful that advertisements can make exaggerated and even false claims. We also discussed how some pricing are unfair and do not reflect the product well.
Next time, we will explore advertisements that are clever, memorable and helpful.
