Upper School have continued to explore the book, ‘Otto: The Autobiography of a Teddy Bear’ and have used it as inspiration for their own stories they have started writing (if children access these from home, please make sure that they continue to save their work regularly: there is no expectation to access these at home - some children just asked - as we will continue next week).
Today, we created a flowchart of the main events of the story and discussed as a class which details we would alter to innovate the story. We decided that instead of a teddy bear, a character could be given a toy or a pet. Instead of the two little boys, we talked about other possibilities. Instead of the boys being separated due to one being horrifically sent off to a concentration camp, we talked about how children could be separated as evacuees or maybe family members sent off to fight on the front line.
Upper School have been given the option to type up their stories or write them and have already shown incredible creativity and sensitivity in their story-telling so far - including the addition of dialogue in a different language to help bring more authenticity to their stories.
I can’t wait until to read them all next week and get them all printed/copied so the children can bring them home for you to enjoy. So proud of them!
