Continuing our science topic of states of matter, children explored how matter can go from one state to another.
We concentrated on water and how it can turn from a liquid into a solid through freezing. We watched time-lapse videos of ice forming and discussed how we think it happens.
We then looked at how solid water can turn into liquid through melting. Children used their thermometers to measure the temperature of water as the ice melted. We confirmed that heating up ice will make it melt.
Children also loved playing the solid, liquid, gas game. Ms Hennelly would shout out a state of matter and children would behave like the molecules would in that state. Ms Hennelly would then shout freeze, melt, evaporate or condense and children would change their molecular structure accordingly!
