What is an animal? Are humans animals? Do you have any animals at home as pets or livestock?

We sparked our science learning by considering these questions this week and it caused some great discussion. The children in Lower School are quite knowledgeable about how to care for animals as many of them have pets and some live on farms (or have family owned farms they visit).

We began to learn about the different groups animals fit into and where the animals naturally live. We also went outside to think about which animals we may find around our school.

Mammals and birds were the most common animals we could find and the children were able to explain why they didn’t see any fish or amphibians.

Please take a look at these videos and discuss the new things you learn from them with your families at home https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv
