As part of our PSHE learning we explored the question ‘What makes a good friend?’. Our discussion was sparked by the lovely new picture book by Petr Horaceck called ‘The Perfect Present’. In the story we meet two best friends Tom and Mot and they give each other a birthday present and play on their birthdays.

We explored the children’s ideas about friendship and the qualities you need to be a good friend. The children then thought carefully about which of those qualities they would like to improve in themselves this year.

We agreed that good friends are the ones that treat us with kindness and respect and are people we trust. Friends are people who like us and accept us for who we are. Good friends don’t try to make us do things that we are uncomfortable with.
