Mrs Cadwallader brought history to life for us last week by bringing in two photos of herself on holiday at the beach when she was a little girl. I was so impressed by our children’s knowledge as they applied what we had learnt a couple of weeks ago (have a look back here https://inskip.lancs.sch.uk/blog/2022-06-18-16-39-16-seasides-now-and-then) when they asked questions about her holidays.
Mrs Cadwallader told us all about the car journey to the beach at Fleetwood. Her parents did not own a car but their friend (the gentleman in the photo) did so they all travelled together in his car. At the time the M6 motorway had not been built and so they travelled from Preston where they lived to Blackpool and along the front to Fleetwood. Mrs Cadwallader told the children how it seemed a very long journey, they got up early in the morning and spent the day in Fleetwood. Now Mrs Cadwallader enjoys lots of holidays abroad and we talked about the differences between holidays then and now.
On Friday Mrs Cadwallader brought her Dad’s old camera which had taken the photos she brought to show us! It was fascinating to see and compare to how we use digital cameras today. The camera was bought by Mrs Cadwallader’s Dad in 1946, apart from a little wear on the sides you can see how the family have taken good care of the camera over the last 76 years!
