The children are using their observations skills daily to observe the changes In the caterpillars as they grow. The children are fascinated by what they are seeing and have been asking lots of questions developing their scientific enquiry skills.

We have noticed how quickly most of the caterpillars are growing, they are making their way to the top of their pots which we know is a sign that they are getting ready to turn into chrysalides. Once they have stored enough energy, each caterpillar will climb to the top of the vial and hang in a “j” shape.  They will then shed their exoskeletons one final time before becoming chrysalides.

We have to be careful not disturb the caterpillars for at least two days (three is recommended) in order to allow them to safely harden into chrysalides.
