A surprise delivery sparked our English topic this week when we received a box of animals and supplies! Our theme for the half term is called ‘Wind In The Willows’ and within English the children will be reading lots of stories where the animal characters have adventures before writing their own.
After receiving the box and accompanying letter (see the photos below) the children and I set up an Animal Shelter. We researched animal shelters and discovered what they do and read the story ‘Hairy Maclary From Donaldson’s Dairy’ to inspire the writing tasks the class then did. The Reception children had the task of organising the animals and giving the cats and dogs names. The Year 1 and 2 children had the task of writing instructions for the people who came to adopt the animals telling them how to care for a cat or a dog.
