As an extra activity to develop their skills of using their senses to explore the world around them and create great vocabulary the children played with my birthday roses that had started to die!

It was so lovely to see them enjoy an open ended task that began with them pulling the petals off and smelling, observing and talking about every part of the flower. It turned into an art activity as some children created pictures with the parts of the flowers and then to one of my favourite childhood activities - making perfume! I gave the children water and a variety of containers and it turned into a maths and science activity as they explored capacity and had a huge amount of fun making perfume.
