Today the learning was all about the different processes of separating materials. The children were given the task of separating a mixture of paper clips, raisins, flour and salt. To do this they used a magnet to remove the paper clips, a sieve to separate the raisins from the flour and then they added water to the flour and salt. From there they used a filter and funnel to pour the mixture into and separate the flour from the salt solution and finally we left the solutions on a warm window sill to evaporate the water. Hopefully on Monday the children will come in to find there is no water and only salt left in their dishes!
