This week’s Science lesson explored the vocabulary of dissolving materials. We found out the meaning of dissolve, soluble and insoluble through testing whether 8 different materials dissolve in room temperature water.
The children made predictions about what they thought would happen to each material, for example sea salt, flour or gravy granules. They were surprised by some of the results. Some children found that the gravy didn’t dissolve as they expected and some children were surprised how quickly the sea salt crystals disappeared to form a solution.
Next week, they will make up their own investigations to explore soluble and insoluble materials further.
