On Tuesday 26th March we were invited to Kirkham Grammar School to attend an author visit. The author happened to be the famous television and radio presenter Dermot O'Leary! Dermot has written two books (and is currently creating a third story) about his own cat Toto - the ninja cat.
Elaine Silverwood from Silverwood Events organised bringing Dermot to Kirkham Grammar school and we were kindly invited to attend the event by Michelle Tickle at KGS. Elaine chatted to Dermot about his books and we learnt all sorts of really interesting things. He told us how he started writing stories as a young boy and sold them to people for 5p when he delivered their newspapers! His stories are based on his real cats Toto and Silver and set around London where Dermot and his wife live. Toto is blind yet a super fast mover with ninja like moves! It was really interesting to listen to Dermot's stories and learn how his experiences have inspired him to write stories.
We enjoyed 'meeting' the illustrator Nick East via a video link who also writes his own books and illustrates stories for other authors. We followed Nick's instructions and had a go at drawing Toto in a ninja pose.
We'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to Kirkham Grammar School for inviting us, to Russell and Tim for coming to collect us and then take us back to Inskip in the KGS minibus, for the yummy kit kat and bottle of water and to Cathy Halsall for the special time in the school library before the event. We had an AMAZING afternoon and as you can see in the photographs we couldn't wait to start reading our copies of the books!
