Today the Upper School children imagined they were working for the British Film Industry! They had to come up with a way of making five different types of soil to be used in a new film. They had to work out what materials would work best to make a solution, some colloids and some suspensions. They had ingredients such as water, brown sugar, cocoa powder, cornflour, biscuits and sultanas.
The effects that they created were fantastic and at the same time the children were learning so much about which materials dissolved in water, which were insoluble, which sank to the bottom and which mixed to form homogeneous mixtures. All fantastic vocabulary!
The children realised that cornflour is a very interesting material to work with! (See the gallery)
