Year 3 and 4 having been telling the time in Maths. Whilst some children find this very easy, many find this dificult. Over the holidays and whenever possible, ask your child to tell you the time!      Ask them questions such as

  • What time will it be in......... an hour, twenty minutes, when this programme finishes in forty-five minutes?
  • How long do we need to wait until..... the film starts, my swimming lesson, we catch the train?

Try to include digital time too. You could ask, "How would we say this digital time using an analogue clock?"

Also if you get the opportunity, look at calendars. All Year 3 and 4 should know the number of days in each month- help them with the rhyme:

                              Thirty days hath September,
                                  April, June and November,
                                 All the rest have thirty-one,
                              Except for February alone,
Which has but twenty-eight days clear
And twenty -nine in each leap year.
